Over the years I've set up many Tipis around Colorado and
Utah. The first in 1971. I spent the summer of 1974 in an 18 ft.Tipi on a small flat spot up Tomboy road high above Telluride,Co.
looking across the valley at Bear Creek. Those Tipis were all unpainted. When I started Moab Outback in 1999 I wanted the
Tipi camp at Pritchet canyon to be colorful and fun. Although all painted Tipis have their own individual theme, as a
group, including the setting as a background, they become a sculpture. Some of these settings were able to be captured on
a photograph, and others could only be appreciated by being at the site.
The art work is not intended to be viewed up close, ideally from about at least 20ft away. But because the art work can be viewed from the inside of the
Tipi with the sunlight shinning thru, some different technics could be used. The artwork could also be viewed at
night when lit from the inside. I also painted a design on the inside of some Tipis, as shown in the photo to the right.---------->
